If you know Christian Provenzano’s work, you know the perfumer rarely misses. His fragrances are modern without chasing anything, vivid in a way that feels almost chromatic, you don’t so much smell them as see them and, crucially, they wear. That last part is rarer than it should be. Plenty of perfumers can build a beautiful opening. Few can build something that’s still beautiful three hours in, on skin, in July.

Summer Vice is no different. Sunshine in a bottle, and I mean that literally: the ripest fruit imaginable, oozing nectar onto your wrists the second you spray. But the thing that makes it more than another fruity summer scent is the acidity. Pineapple in perfumery so often goes one of two ways, either sticky and confected, all candied yellow, or so sheer it evaporates on contact. Here it lands somewhere better. The pineapple is radiant and genuinely ripe, but it arrives with a tartness that keeps it upright, and the citrus alongside it is properly zesty, more rind than juice, bitter at the edges. Blackcurrant does the real structural work: that sharp, almost green sourness cutting straight through the sweetness, the way a squeeze of lime rescues something too rich. And cardamom sits over all of it with its dry, resinous snap, adding just enough spice to stop the whole thing reading as dessert.

The result is fruit that tastes fresh rather than cooked. Juicy and acidic at once, which sounds like a small distinction and is in fact the entire difference between a fragrance you wear twice and one you finish. Then it turns. Caramel and golden amber move in underneath, and the brightness doesn’t disappear so much as get warmer, the shift from midday to that low, syrupy light at seven in the evening. The trail is glowing and frankly addictive, and this is where Provenzano’s hand shows most: the base is rich but never heavy, so the fruit stays right through the drydown instead of drowning in sugar. Summer Vice, where desire meets heat.

Provenzano crafted it with creative direction from Darian Hill of Bowtie Fragrance, a reviewer stepping over to the other side of the table. That’s an increasingly interesting corner of this industry: the people who have spent years describing fragrance to an audience now shaping it, bringing a very specific kind of literacy to the brief. They know what’s already crowding the shelf. They know what a community actually reaches for versus what it merely admires.

Wear it when it’s too hot to think. Wear it with wet hair and a linen shirt. It’s the kind of scent that makes people ask, which, let’s be honest, is at least part of the vice.
