Thomas de Monaco Sol Salgado Review

Thomas de Monaco Sol Sagado

Luzi perfumer Maurus Bachmann captures the essence of summer love with Thomas de Monaco Sol Salgado. Sol Salgado envelops you in a floral veil, joined by hazy golden memories kissed by the sea, and touched by salty tears. It’s an intoxicating scent that washes over you and as an extrait it lasts from dawn to dusk. While its heart is summer, the radiant glow of Sol Salgado makes it suitable for any season.

Fluffy, honeyed blossoms bloom under the sun. Sweet notes shimmer from yellows to greens, with fruits wrapped in powder, giving Sol Salgado a marshmallow like texture- dry rather than sticky. A refreshing cool breeze of mimosa arrives with watery cucumber nuances, complemented by a hint of violet leaf that adds an airy quality to the composition. Subtle almond notes emerge adding a sleekness with this new layer- think the smooth skin of nuts without their coarse husk.

Sol Salgado quietly fills the space around you,  evoking cotton sheets drying in the sun. Perfumer Maurus Bachmann is very deft with the way he uses the materials, adding subtle tones with linden and cotton flowers setting the scene for Sol Salgado’s  understated dreamy elegance. Music keeps coming to mind while wearing Sol Salgado, Don Henley’s Boys of the Summer for it lost love and longing for those dreamy days of the past. While Austrian electronic music producer and guitarist Fennesz’s Endless Summer album shares a similar dreamy textural sensation, soaked in hazy golden reverb making it feel cosy.

It feels like you’ve taken this floral cotton down from the line and wrapped it around you as the powdery heliotrope arrives. The nuttiness transitions into a sweeter marzipan bringing out a sensual richness with the honeyed florals wearing like a halo. Sol Salgado has a delicious density, as if you’re touching the marzipan you can smell. It’s seasoned with a pinch of salt drawing out more aromas while giving the florals a mineralic edge.

Your skin feels sun kissed as the smoky vanilla evolves from the heliotrope, taking the lead as the final dry down unfolds. Sandalwood thickens the vanilla, giving a new sensation to the marzipan’s textural delights. The saltiness combined with the sandalwood gives that stunning feel of sea water drying on your skin adding more to Sol Salgado’s allure. It embodies the familiar warmth of a lover’s embrace, feeling their body close to yours as day becomes night. When I wear Sol Salgado, it feels soft and light, yet it’s a perfume that subtly fills the room, radiating a joyful aura that is abstract enough to feel elusive, and turning heads of those nearby. The way it evokes the sensation of summer is stunning, feeling like hazy memories that play back with mimosa tinted glasses. Sol Salgado is beautifully balanced with the florals and woods never letting things get too sweet. I usually don’t mention compliments, but Sol Salgado had people asking what I was wearing on multiple occasions. We all want that feeling of summer love and Sol Salgado captures it. Exquisite.
