Founded in 2025, SEPT Fragrances moves between New Delhi and Paris, bringing a fresh new perspective to contemporary perfumery. Its intriguing proposition is to give South Asian cultural references the freedom to be playful, fluid, and part of the present. As an introduction, Volume One suggests an ongoing, open conversation, leaving enough space for wearers to bring their own associations and make each fragrance truly personal.

The ideas take shape in New Delhi and develop through a creative dialogue with the independent perfume studio Flair Paris. There, perfumers Margaux Le Paih Guérin and Camille Chemardin composed the house’s debut collection, Volume One: three genderless eaux de parfums, Lores, Glazed Oud, and Rose Caravan, produced in small batches between Grasse and Nice. Moving beyond traditional expectations of Eastern perfumery while taking a playful approach to French classicism, SEPT Fragrances carves its own path with a personal creative vision nourished by a truly multi-cultural sensibility.

“SEPT was conceived as a meeting point between New Delhi and Paris. Every fragrance grew through an ongoing creative dialogue between me and our perfumers at Flair Paris. That exchange is at the heart of the brand.” – Tanya Khurana

Born in Thailand, raised in India, and having lived and worked across Paris, New York, and New Delhi, Tanya Khurana brings her distinctly personal geography to SEPT Fragrances. Art, design, travel, and contemporary culture inform her creative direction, with fragrance becoming a way to give memories, atmospheres, and a shifting sense of belonging an intimate, wearable form. Even the name carries a memory of place: SEPT, French for seven, recalls her days in Paris’s 7th arrondissement, where the idea for the house was conceived. That chapter’s relaxed spirit and appetite for discovery run through her vision, bringing a sense of playfulness to fragrances grounded in South Asian sensibilities and open to the world.

Conceived for everyday rituals and the spaces we inhabit, they speak without clichés, in a way that feels effortless and honest, modern in spirit and personal at heart, allowing identity to unfold through the small, intimate act of choosing a scent.

Sept Fragrances, Rose Caravan

As a rose lover, of course, my first stop was Rose Caravan, a floral woody composition composed by Margaux Le Paih Guérin. In the perfumer’s words, “For this scent, I imagined a pink cactus hit by the sun, in the middle of nowhere. A rose born of thorn and sun, vibrant, effervescent, quietly venomous. It blooms where it shouldn’t, pulsing with beauty and danger.”

This is a rose with the autumn morning sun caught in its petals, complex without being heavy, classical in structure but with a decidedly modern attitude. Velvety, powdery petals meet the juicy brightness of ripe yellow pear, with pink pepper and blackcurrant adding a sparkle, a wink and just enough of a playful bite. Magnolia and orris slip into the bouquet, lending it a chic softness before suede, smooth woods, and white musks draw it closer to the skin. Yet there is plenty of air between the layers, a brightness that keeps the whole composition buoyant and breezy. In my mind, its color is pink verging on fuchsia, and its mood is deliciously unbothered. I would wear this on a bright autumn morning, coffee in hand, crisp leaves under my boots, a suede jacket thrown on, hair in a messy bun, with plenty of me-time on my side. Top Notes: Pink Pepper Extract, Pear, Blackcurrant Bud Absolute, Cactus Accord; Middle Notes: Rose, Pepper, Magnolia; Base Notes: Orris, Modern Woods, Suede, White Musks

Sept Fragrances, Glazed Oud

Margaux Le Paih Guérin also signs Glazed Oud and her words describe the scent perfectly: “I wanted this perfume to represent the preciousness of a golden oud. This deep, intense wood, tangled in gold, burning slow, deep as fire.”

A woody amber composition with a taste for indulgence, SEPT Fragrances Glazed Oud brings to mind a spice bazaar at noon, its oud heart surrounded by pistachio treats sticky with honey. There is something almost tactile about its warmth: I imagine folds of a silk dress brushing against the skin, gold embroidery catching the long midday rays at every movement. The oud holds its ground through all this glazed deliciousness, firm, alluring, and just a little wild, with a messy-hair-don’t-care attitude, but the gourmand opening makes the first encounter dangerously inviting. As the nutty sweetness settles, creamy sandalwood softens the edges, smoke curls through the woods, and supple leather adds its own texture. There is a traditional character at its heart, worn with an ease that makes it feel entirely at home on skin. Warm and enveloping, I can easily imagine Glazed Oud slipping effortlessly into almost any setting, even the office, with enough structure to feel polished and enough softness to wear comfortably. For me, though, it belongs to afternoons spent wandering through the city, phone on airplane mode, my Teams icon a relaxing shade of yellow, taking the long way home, the one that just happens to pass all the best shops in town, and leaving a little room for unplanned adventures and a shopping bag (or two).

Top Notes: Pink Pepper Extract, Pistachio; Heart Notes: White Flowers, Rose, Honey; Base Notes: Tobacco Absolute, Musks, Cade Essence, Leather, Modern Woods, Oud, Sandalwood, Cypriol Essence, Saffron, Animalic Note, Cashmere Wood, Virginian Cedarwood

Sept Fragrances, Lores

SEPT Fragrances Lores by Camille Chemardin is inspired by the atmosphere of ancient cities and forgotten stories. “This fragrance was born of my desire to capture the essence of a sacred, almost forgotten wood through the note of papyrus. It’s the expression of a balance between strength, subtlety and mysticism.”

With the plane tickets to Prague already in my cart, I seem to have found the perfect perfume for that particular escape. I can already imagine wearing Lores on a cool morning, crossing Charles Bridge before the crowds, its sparkling aldehydes and citrus catching the pale light while cinnamon and black pepper supply a little warmth beneath my scarf. As the spices soften, rose and white flowers make a shy appearance, and the dry, papery texture of papyrus draws me further into the story: narrow streets, secondhand bookshops, a precious ancient mystery at every corner. Suede and sandalwood lend a soft, almost tactile warmth, with a little caramel sweetness tucked between the woods, like the promise of a café stop after hours of walking. Against Prague’s Gothic outlines and alchemical associations, this mysterious woody composition feels very much in its element.

Top Notes: Sparkling Aldehydes, Citrus, Cinnamon Leaves, Black Pepper Essence; Heart Notes: White Flowers, Rose; Base Notes: Suede, Caramel, Saffron, Guaiac Wood Essence, Papyrus Essence, Sandalwood, Atlas Cedarwood Essence, Virginian Cedarwood Essence

What stays with me after wearing Volume One is how easily these three perfumes found a place in my routine, each setting off its own little chain of associations, rituals, autumn outfits, and possible departures. Through Tanya Khurana’s vision and the talent of Margaux Le Paih Guérin and Camille Chemardin, familiar compositions acquire a fresh perspective, with cultural references woven into fragrances that feel personal, playful, and very much relatable. There is a confident ease to this debut, enough detail to keep my nose occupied and enough room for my imagination to wander. Somewhere between New Delhi and Paris, I have planned an autumn wardrobe, mentally cleared an afternoon, and found another reason to book those tickets to Prague.

A rather persuasive first volume! I’m looking forward to what’s next.
