“I will be able,
to write again
in my room,
if I can keep the drink
and the dream
just to myself.” – Montri Umavijani
I have always been moved by the profoundly human impulse to keep what we love from vanishing – to give permanence to the memories most dear to us. We gather the fragments left behind by fleeting moments: scraps of sound, photographs revisited so often that we begin to believe we remember the very instant they were taken, melodies forever bound to people and places, comforting scents, and carefully fold them all into our own personal mythology. Perhaps this is how we become who we are.
Childhood has its own measure of time. A summer can hold an entire lifetime, while the smallest things, repeated day after day, become the backbone of our emotional architecture, whether we are aware of it or not. A gesture, repeated often enough, turns into a ritual; and a ritual becomes one of those small certainties around which our life can unfold. There is something so tender about knowing how someone takes their favourite drink: how much milk, how little sugar, the temperature, their favourite cup – all the small details that turn an everyday gesture into the intimate reassurance of being cared for and loved. To return home and find that cup waiting is to discover that someone has been thinking of you, and in the warmth of that familiar ritual, something of childhood returns: that uncomplicated sense of safety we keep longing for, however far life takes us from home.

‘’To mark Dusita Paris’s 10th anniversary, I wanted to honor our House’s emotional origins. Mocha Absolu was inspired by a cherished childhood memory. I remember returning from school to the aroma of hot mocha and Thai tea, finding my father writing at his desk. Later, he began preparing those drinks for me too, a simple gesture of love I have never forgotten. To this day, their scent instantly reminds me of the warmth of our family home. I hope Mocha Absolu offers everyone that same sweet feeling of coming home.”

The synesthete in me feels very much at home in Dusita Paris’s artistic universe. The poetry of Pissara’s father, Montri Umavijani, lies at the heart of her fragrances, while her own watercolors give visible form to the emotions and memories woven into each creation. A gifted visual artist as well as a perfumer, Pissara paints to better understand and “explain” her scents, inviting us into that delicate dialogue between verse, colour, perfume and memory. I was lucky enough to experience the fragrance as part of a limited-time ritual that extended beyond the sense of smell: my bottle arrived accompanied by a hot mocha drink mix, a signed drawing by Pissara, and two small vials isolating its central accords(Thai tea and mocha). Sipped, smelled and seen together, these extra pieces of the puzzle brought the fragrance into clearer focus: the freshness of black tea, the subtle citric undercurrent, the dark depth and sweetness of mocha. Like sketches placed beside a finished painting, they offered a glimpse of the fragrance as it took shape, allowing me to feel and visualise it even more fully.

For Mocha Absolu, an entire little world gathers around a cup. Thai tea brings the sweet, creamy familiarity of Bangkok and childhood; coffee and dark chocolate speak of her Parisian life and the elegant indulgence of its pâtisseries. Memories stirred into one delicious drink, a recipe assembled across years and continents, with the warmth of home rising from it. Building that balance took approximately two years. Pissara compares composing perfume to cooking: finding the ingredients is only the beginning; the proportions need patient attention, and in Mocha Absolu, the most demanding task was bringing the coffee, chocolate and Thai tea into perfect harmony.

The composition opens with Arabica coffee, that familiar morning jolt, nutty, with a flicker of green freshness beneath its roasted warmth, and a little square of dark, bitter chocolate placed beside the cup. Pissara’s references to French pâtisserie are so evocative here: think of a perfectly plated gâteau opéra, or a spoonful of chocolate mousse, rich, rounded, scrumptious, with that beautifully tempered sweetness that lets the darker flavours bloom. There’s something effortlessly chic about this balance, a little French savoir-faire that makes indulgence feel so posh.

Toasted almond adds a praline-like dimension, its nutty facets playing off the roasted character of the coffee. A soft, frothy milkiness curls around them, with the creamy sweetness of condensed milk and a spiral of caramel traced along the inside of the glass. Together, they make the whole thing addictive, the sort of mouthwatering deliciousness that has me returning to sniffing my wrist again and again, with Pavlovian enthusiasm.
I have a particular affection for tea notes, especially Pissara’s take on them and Anamcara, with its fruity tea accord, is the Dusita Paris fragrance I have worn the most – and, come to think of it, probably the most-worn perfume in my entire collection (I’m currently on my second bottle, and that says something, coming from a chronic undersprayer with quite a large collection). So the Thai tea accord in Mocha Absolu had my attention from the start. It brings an unexpected freshness to all this gourmand richness, leaning towards black tea, with a leafy, gently spiced character. Even wrapped in the creamy, caramelized milk haze, we still feel the tea’s aromatic clarity, such a lovely current of freshness running through all that warm, velvety pleasure. Mocha Absolu’s evolution is subtle, so the deliciousness of its opening never leaves – new nuances gather around it, adding texture and depth. In the last hours of wear, the composition settles into a woody, gently earthy base, where creamy sandalwood, vanilla, and tonka bean fold into one another, comforting, soft and enveloping.

Mocha Absolu is a woody gourmand painted in shades of coffee brown and honey gold, with flickers of tea-leaf green dissolving into a pale, frothy wash of milk. It has that Dusita Paris gift for making a fragrance feel like a cinematic memory you can step into: I can almost hear the spoon against the cup and the muffled music drifting in from the other room, cozy as can be in my own bubble of dappled autumn light.
