Perfumer Olivier Durbano will be presenting at Pitti Fragranze in Florence September 11-13, 2026 at Booth A8. While he didn’t create a new perfume, he did write a poetic manifesto Ma which he shared with me-Michelyn Camen
Arcana 22, the Fool, moves forward without holding back. He enters the threshold where old forms no longer contain what is alive.

the space of maturation,
creation taking root.
The interval is the matrix of every birth.
Perfume is born through space.
The vertical breath.
A beginning from another plane.
An origin traversed by spirit.

In Japanese thought, “Ma” is the inhabited interval where silence, breath, apparent absence and presence answer one another.
A suspended moment where what is not yet visible begins to emerge.

the word,
the gesture,
the original calligraphy,
a few strokes.
a great deal of white.
For there is a profound sovereignty
that does not assert itself through saturation…
but through presence,
stillness, space, the fertile void, the creative breath,
