Some fragrances begin with a flower. Others begin with a memory.

Stephen Dirkes has been going to an estate in Grenada, West Indies, every three months for about 5 years now. Putting together a perfumery program with a large Perfumer’s Garden, distillation equipment, perfumer’s organ, and perfumery lab. Also, equipment for enfleurage & tincturing. Stephen has also started a Caribbean perfume festival that has received strong support.  Euphorium Brooklyn Blue Tea is connected to all of those efforts. Butterfly Blue Pea Tea is the specialty of the Tower Estate. “Blue Pea flower, lemongrass, and mint are the basis of the tea, and I’m referencing those notes in the perfume. More specifically, I wanted to capture the scent of afternoon tea on the grand veranda at the Tower Estate. It has been a fantastic experience for me to observe the florals morning, noon, and night throughout the year for several years now, and I’ve really taken my time working out accords.” Stephen Dirkes

Blue Tea was inspired by the ritual of afternoon tea at the Historic Tower Estate, where the line between garden and gathering almost disappears, and the surrounding gardens slowly make their presence known.  And in these moments, tranquility reigns. There are no schedules to rush toward, no destinations waiting at the end of the day. Instead, there’s simply the pleasure of sitting still long enough to appreciate your surroundings.

My first impression of Euphorium Brooklyn Blue Tea is hopeful and uplifting. Lemongrass with its zesty citrus essence, refreshing mint, and the peaceful nuance of blue pea flower. It captures that first sip taken on a warm afternoon, restoring and aromatic, with sunlight still lingering across the veranda.

Stephen informed me that large plantings of Tea Rose, Jasmine Sambac, and Heaven Scent Gardenia surround the veranda. In the late afternoon, their fragrance drifts effortlessly through the open air. There is nothing dramatic about it. The flowers simply arrive on the breeze, weaving themselves into each moment. Blue Tea was built around that experience, allowing these blooms to unfold naturally, creating a floral heart that feels alive and authentic. I found the floral accord airy, carrying the creamy depth of gardenia, the luminous qualities of jasmine sambac, and the elegance of tea rose. Together, I feel as if I am sitting among the gardens rather than merely observing them from a distance.

No traditional afternoon tea would be complete without something sweet. Hints of Butter Cream, Cake, and vanilla add the most delicate gourmand note, while traces of honey and fresh mango bring a very subtle tropical brightness and warmth that feels perfectly at home in the West Indies. These notes never overwhelm the florals. Instead, they create the impression of delicateness resting beside a steaming cup of tea. Musk settles in, adding a touch of sensuality and warmth. It’s like wrapping yourself in a blanket of bliss, evoking a sense of relaxation and effortless chic.

Euphorium Brooklyn Blue Tea is ultimately a fragrance about place. It captures flowering gardens carried on a warm breeze, and the simple pleasure of sharing tea and sweets in beautiful surroundings.
