Black Phantom “Memento Mori” (Sidonie Lancesseur): I own the original from 2017 which has “Memento Mori” inscribed on the bottle. Memento Mori is Latin for “remember that you must die,” and was a Victorian reminder of life’s impermanence. In Black Phantom that sentiment lends a haunting quality to its rich gourmand boozy notes, transforming sweetness into something darker and more enigmatic. –Michelyn

Notes: Rum, caramel, coffee, cyanide !!!(bitter almond accord), sugar cane, vetiver, and sandalwood.

Nasomatto Black Afgano Alessandro Gualtieri (2009) has a smoky haunting presence that feels remarkably modern even years after its release. It evokes the atmosphere of a dimly lit room filled with incense, polished dusky wood, the scent of weed, and smoldering resins-Michelyn

Notes: cannabis accord, green notes, coffee, tobacco, woods, resins, oud, and incense.

Parfums Quartana Bleeding Heart (Laure Breysse) is one of the most unusual floral gourmands I’ve smelled recently. Based on the legend of the bleeding-heart flower, the fragrance contrasts cold metallic notes with lush rose, peony, strawberry, and creamy white chocolate to create something both beautiful and unexpected. The bleeding-heart flower, said to embody wounded love, lends the fragrance a haunting quality, its beauty shadowed by an undercurrent of danger. Inspired by heartbreak but ultimately centered on self-love, it feels emotional, romantic, and surprisingly comforting. –Michelyn
